The Center for Innovation and Change will house and build upon existing programs where students work in the community and their field.
This center will take the place of the Institute of Global Enterprise at the University of Evansville, which was originally founded with help from Lilly Endowment funding. Student led programs under the institute have completed major projects in the Evansville community.
The ChangeLab, one of the primary programs involved, launched a city-wide bike share program and received $90,000 in grant funding to install solar panels at the Carver Community Center back in 2015. The new Center for Innovation and Change will also take over the Changemaker Challenge, which is a contest that awards scholarships to students that develop impactful programs on the local and global level.
University of Evansville expects to see a change in academic attitudes that promotes cross-disciplinary collaboration as part of the center opening its doors on campus this fall.
