Two Indiana Teachers Eligible for $1M Prize
Two Hoosier high school skilled trade teachers are among 50 from across the country named as semifinalists for the 2019 Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence. The teachers and their school’s trade programs are eligible for a share of $1 million in total cash awards.
An independent panel of judges chose the semifinalists from a field of nearly 750 skilled trades teachers across the country. Industrial technology teacher at Hamilton Heights, Eric Fisher, and construction and manufacturing teacher at Garrett High School, Chad Sutton, now advance to the second round of competition, where they will be asked to respond to video learning modules about teaching practices. A full list of semifinalists can be found here.
A separate independent panel of reviewers will narrow the field to 18 finalists after two rounds of judging. Three first-place winners and 15 second-place winners will be announced October 24. The 18 winners will split $1 million in prizes.
