Two-EE’s Winery to Adopt New Age Policy
Two-EE’s Winery in Huntington will adopt a new age policy begining in August. Our partners at WPTA-TV report the winery will no longer allow people under the age of 21 to visit the establishment due to ongoing problems with unsupervised or misbehaving children.
In a post on Facebook Thursday, Eric Harris and Emily Hart said the situation has become unmanageable:
"Two-EE’s Winery fought at the state legislature for the family friendly agri-tourism experience at Indiana wineries. Our testimony helped secure legislation that would allow adults to bring minors with them to the winery under supervision. After several years of trying to manage this privilege, our employees have had to take on the role of babysitter for irresponsible parents and respectful guests have had to tolerate mismanaged children.
Many of our guests with young children have been respectful of the state law and taken responsibility for well behaved children. Sadly, more often we are left to deal with parents who call us monsters when we ask them to keep their child from throwing rocks or running wild around other guests.
We realize this is a divisive issue, it’s not been an easy decision to make but we’ve exhausted all options and have come to the realization that poor parenting is not something we can manage to tolerate due to its affect on other guests experience, destruction of our property, and most importantly liability concerning Indiana State Law.
As parents, we’re disappointed that this lack of respect has left us with the difficult choice to change our policy because it applies to us too, and will weigh heavy on us not being able to spend as much time with our children because they can’t come visit us at work.
Any snarky comments about how we’ve lost a customer due to this policy change will be seen as a lack of understanding of the gravity of this situation.
Regretfully,
Eric & Emily"
The company is also in the process adding a 7,000-square-foot expansion that is slated for completion this summer.
According to the Facebook post, the new age policy will take effect August 31.
