Trine Names Engineering Dean Timothy Tyler named engineering dean at Trine University

Trine University has announced Timothy Tyler as dean of the Allen School of Engineering & Technology in the College of Engineering and Business. Tyler has worked in the civil engineering department at Trine for 21 years.

Tyler has chaired the department for three years and has served as associate dean of the Allen School of Engineering and Technology. Tyler is the winner of five McKetta Smith Teaching Awards.

"Tim has been one of the most beloved teachers and department chairs in the Allen School of Engineering and Technology for more than 20 years,” said Allen Hersel, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs. “I am very fortunate to have such a dynamic leader to help propel the school to even greater prominence.”

Tyler previously worked as a project engineer for consulting firms in Virginia and North Carolina. He is a registered professional engineer in Virginia, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio and has served as a part time consulting engineer at Patriot Engineering and Environmental Inc. for 17 years. Tyler earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in civil engineering from West Virginia University and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Order of the Engineer and American Society for Engineering Education.

“I am very honored to accept this role at Trine,” said Tyler. “We have been training engineers and engineering technologists for more than 100 years and are very proud of our students’ accomplishments. Quality education will still be our highest priority, and I look forward to working with our excellent faculty and department chairs to find ways to improve student learning and success. I am especially excited to assist in the promotion of our newer programs like software engineering and biomedical engineering, and want to continue collaboration with student/industry projects through Trine’s Innovation One program.”
