Angola, Ind. — A Phoenix educator with more than 25 years of experience in higher education, academic leadership, management and campus start-ups has been selected to serve as associate dean of academics at Trine University Peoria in Arizona.
Deborah Wheeler, Ph.D., most recently served as the academic program director for psychology programs at Colorado Technical University, where she was also the former dean of student success. Prior to joining CTU in 2010, Wheeler was the vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer for the Argosy University Salt Lake City campus from 2006 to 2009. In addition, she has been an academic consultant since 1989.
“Deborah's experience in higher education and academics is essential as Trine enrolls students at our new campus serving the West Valley,” said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine president. “Her skills complement those of David Pearson, the new assistant vice president for Trine Peoria.”
Pearson, an experienced specialist in marketing, enrollment and campus start-ups, joined Trine in late May and leads the Peoria campus.
“Trine's reputation for rigorous academics and work-ready graduates will be a top priority on the Peoria campus,” Wheeler said. “That reputation is among Trine’s many outstanding attributes, making it a privilege to join a dynamic university with a long history dating back to the 1880s.”
Wheeler holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Alliant International University, San Diego Scripps Ranch; a Master of Business Administration in management from Argosy University, Chicago; a Master of Arts in psychology from Alliant and a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Southern Utah University.
Among Wheeler's duties as associate dean, she will serve as the chief academic officer, lead quality initiatives and accreditation requirements, supervise faculty, oversee course scheduling, assess the needs and coordinate the development of instructional programs, advise students and teach.
About Trine Peoria
Trine University Peoria is a partnership with the City of Peoria that serves students in the West Valley and offers associate, bachelor and master degrees in 34 areas of study. Trine Peoria, which opened in spring 2013, is a transfer partner with Maricopa Community.
Trine offers a variety of majors, including engineering, in areas aligned with Peoria’s 2010 Higher Education Feasibility Study and Economic Development Implementation Strategy. In addition to biomedical, civil and mechanical engineering, Trine offers bachelor degrees in applied management, business administration, communication, computer science, criminal justice, emergency management, engineering technology, general studies and psychology. Trine also offers master’s degrees in criminal justice, engineering and leadership.
Ninety-seven percent of Trine students who graduated from Trine in 2013 were either employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation. The national average is 63.6 percent as reported by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
Trine is currently enrolling students for online and seated classes in supportive, accelerated eight-week courses.
