The Villages at Central State project adds to investment on the property that has totaled $62 million since the city acquired it in 2004.
The new project involves 16 single-family homes, five town houses and one duplex on the site near the White River and IUPUI campus. The city says the Villages at Central State is one of the first market-rate, single-family housing options available on the near west side. It expects the project to spur additional redevelopment and move the city closer to the goal of "transforming the former Central State Hospital grounds into a complete community."
Other previous projects on the property include:
- a 144-unit multi-family affordable housing development
- Christel House Academy
- public track and field area
- a 62-unit senior living facility
- a mixed-use development and infrastructure improvements
The groundbreaking is set for 2:00 p.m. Thursday and will include Department of Metropolitan Development Director Emily Mack, City-County Council Vice President Marilyn Pfisterer, as well as representatives from South Bend-based developer Holladay Properties, Indianapolis-based Nottingham Realty Group and Indianapolis-based Compendium Group Inc.
