Toyota Touts Second Quarter Giving

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana Inc. says it awarded more than $120,000 in grants during the second quarter of 2013. The company says much of the funding focuses on educational programs in the counties where many of its employees live.

Princeton, Ind. — Many area nonprofit organizations and the citizens they support will benefit soon from funding provided by Toyota Indiana. Toyota's second quarter grant cycle recently concluded with donations of more than $120,000 awarded to organizations spread throughout 11 counties.

With area students back in school, many of the grant requests were geared toward school programming. Other requests included the Red Ribbon Committee for a Drug-Free Gibson County for its Red Ribbon Rally and the Tri-State Alliance for its TSA Youth Group.

“We want to wish all area students a great start to the 2013-14 school year,” said Kelly Dillon, Toyota Indiana spokeswoman. “While a majority of these grants were designated for school programming, others were used to embrace diversity, such as the Tri-State Alliance Youth Group donation.”

Toyota’s grants are given to nonprofit organizations in the counties where the majority of its 4,500 team members reside. Counties represented this quarter were Wabash and White counties in Illinois, Henderson County in Kentucky and Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Knox, Pike, Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties in Indiana. The Philanthropy Committee, which is made up of team members from different areas of the plant, reviews grant applications and selects programs for funding on a quarterly basis.

“These funds from Toyota will help our organization a great deal,” said Wally Paynter, board president, Tri-State Alliance. “We will be able to provide more services to our at-risk youth in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.”
