The president of a local nonprofit focused on redeveloping the Wabash riverfront in Terre Haute says the $20 million transformation of the old American Can factory will "absolutely" attract additional investment. Riverscape’s Charlie Williams says the 166-unit Riverfront Lofts project is a "home run" for the city and continues 12 years of progress in the area. Indianapolis-based Core Redevelopment is leading the renovation and will host public on-site tours Thursday. The company also handled renovations to the historic Deming building downtown, which is home to apartments, businesses and the Launch Terre Haute coworking space.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Williams said he likes seeing signs of new construction popping up throughout the Vigo County city. "It’s really refreshing to see cranes on the skyline in downtown Terre Haute," he said, "which has to do with increased density for the downtown of Terre Haute and certainly the growth of Indiana State University’s enrollment and popularity."
WIlliams says the Riverfront Lofts development represents "the second leg of a three-legged stool," with the other legs being additional housing projects downtown and other abandoned industrial riverfront property toward the southern part of the city he believes is ripe for redevelopment.
