Toll Road Travel Plaza Improvements to Start

Subscribe NowThe manager of the Indiana Toll Road says the initial phase of a more than $30 million plan to improve travel plazas along the corridor is set to begin this week. The Indiana Toll Road Concession Co. will close the Steuben County location Thursday, as it readies the site for demolition.
The work is part of a major overhaul proposed by ITRCC, which includes $130 million in surface improvements. The travel plaza efforts will also involve tearing down and rebuilding locations in Portage and Elkhart next April and Rolling Prairie and Howe next August.
Australia-based IFM Investors completed a $5.75 billion lease agreement earlier this year for the Indiana Toll Road. The deal involves IFM’s acquisition of the bankrupt international consortium selected in 2006 to operate the 156-mile roadway. That 75-year contract remains intact.
ITRCC Chief Executive Officer Ken Daley says "our strategy is to create sites that will make Hoosiers proud of their state and their Toll Road. We are incorporating Indiana touches into the concepts and design and are ready to see them come to fruition."
The travel site improvements are all slated to be complete before August 2017.
