The Kokomo Tribune reports Havens passed away after an extended battle with Crohn’s disease. Havens, a U.S. Army veteran, served two terms as mayor of Tipton, but did not seek a third term. His successor, Democrat Tom Dolezal, is set to take office in January.
Governor Eric Holcomb issued the following statement Friday after news Haven’s death was released.
“Janet and I were deeply saddened to learn about Don’s passing. He was an incredible public servant who was dedicated to ensuring his hometown was the kind of community where you would want to raise a family and grow a business. We ask that all Hoosiers join us in offering prayers and condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mayor Don.”
