Three Indiana Main Street organizations have earned the Nationally Accredited Main Street designation from Main Street America, according to the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

To earn the designation, an organization must meet certain criteria designed to elevate local revitalization efforts.

Main Street America lists six accreditation standards that communities must meet in order to be recognized:

  • Broad-based Commitment to Revitalization
  • Inclusive Leadership and Organizational Capacity
  • Diversified Funding and Sustainable Program Operations
  • Strategy-Driven Programming
  • Preservation-Based Economic Development
  • Demonstrated Impact and Results

The new Nationally Accredited Main Street communities in Indiana are Main Street Corydon, Main Street Greensburg, and Heart of Jasper.

“We are ecstatic to receive this designation,” Main Street Greensburg Executive Director Allison Beck said in written remarks. “This accreditation reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, local businesses and community partners. Together, we are making downtown Greensburg a vibrant place to live, work, and visit.”

By earning the designation, the main street organizations will receive access to Main Street America and Indiana Main Street training opportunities, networking opportunities with other regional and statewide programs, and a resource toolbox unique to their needs, OCRA said.

“Main Streets are the heart and soul of our communities, both culturally and economically,” OCRA Executive Director Fred Glynn said in a news release. “Congratulations to these Main Street programs for earning this designation and continuing to better our Hoosier communities.”

The three organizations bring the number of Indiana communities to have earned the nationally accredited designation to 19.
