Three Hoosier small towns land federal planning grants

The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs has announced a total of $190,000 in planning grants for three Hoosier communities.
The funding will be used to develop plans for long-term comprehensive development and the implementation of utility improvement projects, the agency said.
The town of Centerville in Wayne County and the town of Fowler in Benton County have each received a $50,000 Comprehensive Planning Grant. OCRA said the grants are designed to aid communities in evaluating assets and identifying opportunities to address current needs in areas such as land use, economic development, housing, and transportation, among others.
The town of Elnora in Daviess County has received a $90,000 Water Infrastructure Planning Grant. The community can use the funding to put together a summary of potential issues and opportunities across drinking, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure.
“These grants are not just an investment in infrastructure — they’re an investment in our people,” Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith said in a news release. “Local governments, in partnership with their communities, are best positioned to make decisions that impact their residents — that is why these grants are so important. They allow our towns to take charge of their future and provide the tools and resources for communities to tackle their most pressing challenges while maintaining their character and values.”
The funding originates from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program and is administered for the state by OCRA.
