Andrew Thrasher, portfolio manager at Financial Enhancement Group LLC has been named 2017 recipient of the Charles H. Dow Award. The award is presented annually by the Market Technicians Association. At age 30, Thrasher is one of the youngest recipients to win the Charles H. Dow Award. Established in 1994, the Charles H. Dow Award recognizes outstanding research in technical analysis conducted by financial industry practitioners and academics. Entries are evaluated based on the submitted paper’s ability to enhance the understanding of market action, the concepts of technical analysis, and the comprehensive research presented. Thrasher’s research paper, “Forecasting a Volatility Tsunami” was authored in 2016 and provides a unique view on market volatility, providing a method for evaluating time periods that precede large swings in the Volatility Index and U.S. equity markets. Thrasher becomes the 22nd author or coauthor to receive the Charles H. Dow Award. Eight previous winners have gone on to publish books based on their winning submissions. Joe Clark, CFP, Managing Partner of Financial Enhancement Group, LLC said the award signifies Andrew’s dedication to research that advances the understanding of technical analysis. Thrasher is a graduate of Purdue University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Financial Counseling and Planning. In addition to provide market commentary to various financial websites, including his own, his analysis has been referenced in numerous media outlets including MarketWatch, Bloomberg, Fox Business, Yahoo! Finance, CNBC and U.S. News.
