Third-Generation Company Growing in Indy

A family-owned Hoosier logistics company is expanding. Merchandise Warehouse Co. Inc. is planning to pump more than $13.5 million into additional technology, space and adding 65 workers by 2019.
The third-generation business says a 90,000 square-foot addition will house new robotics and conveyor systems it says will help meet growing demand. The new space will boost operating space at its food-grade facility, which has been at capacity for two years, by nearly 25 percent. Merchandise Warehouse’s largest clients are food producers for the restaurant industry. It also packages, stores and ships goods for pharmaceutical and general commodity industry customers.
The expansion will nearly double the company’s work force. Hiring is set to begin in August. Chief Executive Officer Tim Siddiq says "Indianapolis remains the ‘Crossroads of America’ and we continue to see a growing demand for our services, due not only to the nature and quality of the service we provide, but because of our location. It made sense, when we decided on expanding, to stay right here and build upon our strong team and take advantage of the excellent business climate."
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered as much as $300,000 in tax credits contingent upon the company meeting hiring targets.
