Subscribe NowThe co-founder of a newly-opened coworking space in Indianapolis’ Broad Ripple neighborhood says he wants it to become "the heart of the local creative community." Ben Carlson says The Hatch targets creative industries such as advertising, marketing and design. In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Carlson said the space also has studios for projects ranging from painting and photography to sound recording.
The Hatch held its grand opening this week. It is located in a former badge and trophy shop dating back to the 1970s. Carlson says many people in creative industries work from home or at coffee shops because they don’t want to sign a long-term lease. He says The Hatch uses a monthly model, allowing people to select passes that give them access either three or seven days per week.
The project marks the latest addition to the growing coworking movement in central Indiana and throughout the state. Central Indiana’s slate of coworking spaces includes the Speak Easy, which recently opened a second location in downtown Indianapolis, and Launch Fishers, which has grown to more than 600 members.
Carlson says he is already looking at sites for additional locations for The Hatch.
