Indianapolis-based housing developer The Annex Group is partnering with Youth Build Indy to build Union at 16th, an affordable housing community on the city’s near west side. As part of the partnership, The Annex Group says participants in the nonprofit’s BUILD program are helping with construction work on the $29 million housing development.

The BUILD program, which stands for Believers United in Local Development, provides workforce development for people aged 16-24 who are unemployed, underemployed or who have not completed high school.

“At The Annex Group, we hope our developments will act as a catalyst for growth for employees, communities and future residents,” said Kyle Bach, chief executive officer of The Annex Group. “By partnering with Youth Build Indy, we hope this project can also be a catalyst for growth for the young people who put their own time, skills and effort into the project. We are proud to work with this program to produce a community that will help offset the affordable housing shortage here in Indianapolis while teaching young people valuable skills they can take with them through their lives and careers.”

Union at 16th will feature 159 units with one, two and three-bedroom options.

“Working with The Annex Group for the Union at 16th project gave Youth Build Indy participants access to training opportunities at a pivotal time in their lives,” said Troy Turner, Youth Build Indy program director. “Providing skilled labor opportunities for trainees helps them improve their own community, but also sets them on a path to improve their lives in the long-term.”
