The city of Terre Haute is exploring the idea of adding a sports complex and aquatic center on the city’s east side, according to our partners at WTHI-TV. The sports complex would include baseball, soccer and football fields.

The sports complex could potentially include space for the Terre Haute Rex Baseball Team, which is part of the summer collegiate Prospect League.

The city is also analyzing the possibility of adding a water park or feature.

The city is using a portion of a $50,000 grant, which is part of the Indiana’s Regional Economic Acceleration & Development Initiative award to the region, to explore the possibilities.

“We were only able to secure $50,000 for a feasibility study that we were starting to get ready to anyway,” he said. “That will pay for that. That’ll put us in a position to know just how big and what are competition is. Those kind of things as we figure out just exactly what this looks like.”

The city and developers of the Terre Haute casino recently broke ground on the gaming complex that is also on the east side of the city.

WTHI also reports the city is looking to make improvements to Rea Park, on the city’s southside. Terre Haute hopes to refurbish a historical clubhouse and use it as an event venue.
