Maple to Join Lilly Endowment

Subscribe NowEarly Learning Indiana Chief Executive Officer Ted Maple will join Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. in October. He has led the nonprofit early ed provider since 2013. Maple will help lead the endowment’s education and youth development programs. Indianapolis attorney and consultant Susan Haber will also join the endowment as a program director.
Prior to joining Early Learning Indiana, Maple led United Way of Central Indiana’s Success By 6 education initiative. He also taught kindergarten and first grade in M.S.D. of Pike Township in Indianapolis. Maple has been a big part of All in 4 Pre-K, a major push for expanded pre-k education funding at the state level. The effort also includes former Eli Lilly and Co. CEO John Lechleiter and Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. When it was launched in August 2016, Maple told Inside INdiana Business "we have a rare window of opportunity to make an investment in our children and an important statement about the future of our state."
Haber is principal with Nonprofit Systems Consulting Firm and a former law clerk to U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana Senior Judge Sarah Evans Barker. She has more than 20 years of experience with academic, nonprofit and governmental organizations including Indiana’s Bureau of Child Development, the American Camp Association and La Plaza in Indianapolis. Haber is set to join the endowment in September.
Lilly Endowment supports several educational programs. In January, the organization announced nearly 300 school districts and charter schools throughout the state would share in more than $9 million as part of the Comprehensive Counseling Initiative for Indiana K-12 Students. In February, Lilly Endowment awarded more than $7 million to the Indianapolis-based Mind Trust for its Innovation School Fellowship program.
