Purdue Research Park-based Imaginestics LLC will take part in a national innovation challenge. The company will present its shape-based search engine technology at the White House Presidential Innovation Fellows Initiative program “SmartAmerica Challenge.”

May 19, 2014

News Release

West Lafayette, Ind. — Imaginestics is proud to announce their selection and participation in the White House Presidential Innovation Fellows Initiative program, “SmartAmerica Challenge.” On June 11th, Imaginestics, along with its partners, Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII), Rapid Direction, Inc. (RDI), and University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI), will be presenting their revolutionary Smart Shape Technology at the SmartAmerica Challenge Expo (http://smartamerica.org/expo/).

Smart Shape Technology (SST) completely disrupts the current manufacturer-to-distributor-to-retailer-to consumer supply chain, empowering consumers to connect directly with local manufacturers and retailers. Today consumers and manufacturers are limited to retail stores or catalogs/web to find parts/products. SST changes this paradigm by bringing awareness of local part/product availability (within a 30 – 60 mile radius) to users' fingertips, via mobile devices and wireless chips embedded on a part (Active Label). This Active Label technology contains 3D design data and links to smart hubs to communicate the part's availability, location and shape signature information via VizSpace, Imaginestics' social supply chain cyber platform.

Nainesh Rathod, CEO of Imaginestics, said of SST, “We are excited both about the opportunity to participate in the White House Presidential Innovation Fellows Initiative and to develop innovative technology that will transform everyday consumers' decisions and increase local manufacturing. Maturity of 3D printing technology coupled with SST is one of the means to bring manufacturing back to local communities, and SST will allow consumers and manufacturers to connect like never before. The potential economic impact for communities is astounding when you return demand to local manufacturers.”

Using Chicago as a pilot community, Imaginestics and their partners plan to create resurgence in local manufacturing over the next 5 years by shifting just 5 percent of the $50 billion of manufactured goods imported today to local manufacturers, providing a local economic stimulation of $2.5 billion, and creation of about 50,000 new manufacturing jobs. Each additional manufacturing job also creates 2.3 jobs in the service sector. Through this local manufacturing demand, SST will help increase STEM graduates and raise local skill level and median household income by 10%.

About SmartAmerica Challenge

The SmartAmerica Challenge is a White House Presidential Innovation Fellow project with the goal to bring together research in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and to combine test-beds, projects and activities from different sectors, such as Smart Manufacturing, Healthcare, Smart Energy, Intelligent Transportation and Disaster Response, to show tangible and measurable benefits to the US economy and the daily lives of American. Over 65 Companies, Government Agencies and Academic institutions came together on December 12, 2013 and launched 12 teams/projects. Since that time 12 new projects have been formed. These teams have been hard at work over the past months building systems, prototypes, pilots and products that demonstrate the capabilities of CPS, but more importantly as the goal of the SmartAmerica Challenge they will show how these technologies will deliver socio-economic benefits to America.

The Challenge will culminate with the SmartAmerica Expo on June 11 at the Washington DC Convention Center. The expo is free to attend, but registration is required.
