By Andy Ober
Tech Announcement Coming in Carmel The announcement is set for 1:45 p.m. at Carmel City Hall.

A California-based tech company will take part in an economic development announcement Monday in Carmel. Governor Mike Pence and Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb are set to take part in Monday afternoon’s event.

The announcement will mark the latest in a string of recent tech wins for central Indiana, most notably last month when Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) announced plans to establish a new headquarters in the former Chase Tower in downtown Indianapolis, which will be rebranded as Salesforce Tower Indianapolis. The software company’s move is expected to result in up to 800 new jobs by 2021.

Last week, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce created the Indiana Technology & Innovation Council, tasked with strengthening the sector’s voice on public policy issues. Chamber Vice President of Engagement and Innovation Policy Mark Lawrance will lead the effort, which will focus on issues including business climate, capital formation and entrepreneurship.

TechPoint, Indiana’s technology initiative, says the computer and information technology industries accounted for more than 5,000 new jobs between 2009-2014, an increase of 17 percent.

Monday’s event is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. at Carmel City Hall.
