The Terre Haute native previously served as managing director of development for the organization’s Chicago-Northwest Indiana region.
In his new role, Patel will oversee regional operations, work on building community partnerships and cultivating private and public support. He joined Teach For America in 2007 while teaching high school chemistry, biology and coaching baseball at Wells Community Academy in Chicago.
"As a Teach For America alumnus and experienced senior staff member of Teach For America–Chicago-Northwest Indiana, Amar brings a deep commitment to our mission and expertise of the organization," said Lisa Sablosky, regional board chair for Teach For America. "His personable approach to people and his work, along with his leadership experience and excellent work ethic will be a huge asset to our region as we move forward."
During his tenure in the Chicago-Northwest Indiana region, Patel helped raise more than $65 million for the organization.
