The vendor that operates food services at Taylor University in Upland has notified the state it is laying off 178 workers, after the school terminated its contract with Pennsylvania-based Parkhurst Dining LLC. The cafeteria operator, which is part of Eat’nPark Hospitality Group Inc. says it intends to permanently shut down all operations on or about May 21.

In the WARN notice, Parkhurst claims the university unexpectedly informed the company it intended to end the contract without 90 days’ notice.

“Accordingly, it was not possible to give any greater advance notice of this layoff,” stated the company. “Under normal circumstances, the company would provide team members with this notice at least 60 days prior to the date of termination.”

Inside INdiana Business has reached out to the university seeking comment about the contract cancellation and to see if a new vendor has been named.
