The Elkhart County Council has approved tax abatement for a northern Indiana manufacturer planning to add jobs and build a new headquarters. The South Bend Tribune reports New Paris-based Smart Cabinetry is looking to invest around $10 million into an expansion that could create 90 jobs. The hiring is expected to be complete by 2017.

Smart currently employs 125 at its current Elkhart County facility.

Elkhart County Economic Development Corp. Director of Business Retention and Expansion Dave Ogle tells the publication the company could have moved to Ohio, Illinois or Michigan.

He says average wages at Smart Cabinetry range from $25 to $30 per hour.
