The House Ways and Means Committee will consider a high-profile tax bill this afternoon. The Indiana Senate last month passed the proposal to eliminate the business personal property tax for companies with the lowest assessed valuations. You can see the Senate bill by clicking here.

The House passed its own version of a business personal property tax bill in January. That proposal would give counties the option to exempt companies from the tax.

Several local government leaders have spoken out against a business personal property tax cut, saying it would cause further problems for already cash-strapped communities. Governor Mike Pence favors phasing out the tax, but says he wants to do so without an “unduly burden” on local governments.
