Talks Continue Between BP Refinery Officials, Union

Subscribe NowUnited Steel Workers Local 7-1, which represents more than 1,000 steel workers at the BP Whiting Refinery, has announced a temporary agreement to stave off a strike. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report unionized oil industry workers at nine other refineries throughout the country went on strike last night after their shifts. Shell Oil Co. is in contract negotiations with the USW, which represents workers at more than 65 refineries and 230 facilities nationwide.
Plant officials say replacement workers are on standby and have been trained to run the operation should a strike hit.

Statement From United Steel Workers Local 7-1
WHITING, Ind. – Today February 1, 2015 USW Local 7-1 withdrew it's strike notice and entered into an agreement for an extension on a rolling 24 hour basis. All represented workers are to report as scheduled until further notice.
