Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne is moving forward with plans for a new synthetic turf field. The $1 million field will be home to the Warriors’ men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse programs.
The turf will replace the current natural grass surface at Warrior Athletic Field, which was build in 2005. Crews will likely break ground after commencement in May, with plans for work to be complete in August before preseason camps for fall sports teams.
The school says the field will also benefit its physical education department as well as intramural and club sports.
Women’s lacrosse coach Jason Allen says the new field will have a huge impact on recruiting. In a release, he says it will provide "endless opportunities to showcase our turf field to high school teams and club teams by having them come out and play on it." Allen says the school will also be able to have camps and clinics throughout the year.
"The impact it will have on recruiting is huge, it will help us seal the deal with the rest of our facilities," said first-year women’s lacrosse coach Jason Allen. "And let’s not forget the endless opportunities to showcase our turf field to high school teams and club teams by having them come out and play on it. We will also be able to have camps and clinics at any time during the year for recruits!"
