Synapse Sitters Expands in Indiana

An Indianapolis-based startup has expanded into two new markets. Synapse Sitters, which has created a platform for parents to find babysitters for children with special needs, has launched in Lafayette and South Bend-Mishawaka with plans for continued growth.

Synapse Sitters was founded in 2017 and officially launched its platform last April. It uses a secure online network for parents to connect with specialized sitters who are qualified to care for special needs children. The company says it has signed up enough sitters to begin serving families in Lafayette and is currently recruiting sitters in the South Bend-Mishawaka area.

Marie Maher, founder of Synapse Sitters, says they expect to have enough sitters signed up in South Bend-Mishawaka within the next two months. In November, Maher told Kylie Veleta on The Business of Health segment of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick the sitters must have some type of experience within human services, such as teachers, ABA therapists, speech pathologists, nurses and nursing students.

The company has plans to further its expansion by ramping up efforts to launch in Fort Wayne. A timeline for that launch was not provided.

Synapse Sitters was recently nominated for New Tech Startup of the Year at the 2019 TechPoint Mira Awards. The company won last year’s pitch competition during The Startup Ladies’ annual luncheon.
