The startup has signed a long-term lease for the former Jake’s Nightclub building and, along with the property owner, will invest nearly $1 million to renovate the space.
The brewery, which began last year after raising more than $42,000 in seed capital through a Kickstarter campaign, says plans for the 8,800 square-foot space include a new roof, new HVAC systems and a complete demolition and renovation of the building’s interior.
In addition to the food and craft beer options, the brewpub will also serve as a coworking space.
"We’re building Switchyard for those with overactive imaginations, the ones who dare to think differently, for the next generation of entrepreneurs and creatives," said Kurtis Cummings, co-founder of Switchyard Brewing. "We believe that business can, and should be a catalyst for positive change within our community. We believe in empowering other aspiring creatives to pursue their dreams. We believe in hard work, quality, and persistence against all odds. As a local two-car garage startup, we have a unique perspective on the needs and challenges of the Bloomington startup community."
Switchyard says demolition will begin immediately and the brewpub is expected to open in December.
