Section 6 involves upgrading State Road 37 between Martinsville and Indianapolis. The Indiana Department of Transportation says a Record of Decision and Final Environmental Impact Statement from the Federal Highway Administration are set to be complete early next year.
In March, INDOT released a Tier 2 Draft Environmental Impact Statement, which included details of the preferred route such as planned exits, underpasses and overpasses. The study projected construction costs could be approximately $1.5 billion. It said construction would begin in 2020 and wrap up in 2026.
Section 5, which runs from Bloomington to Martinsville and has seen multiple delays, could be complete in 2018, according to INDOT. It was initially slated to be finished in 2016. Sections 1 through 4 have been complete for some time — former Governor Mike Pence cut the ribbon on Section 4 in December of 2015.
INDOT says property owners along the route will be notified by letter this month about survey schedules and signage and lighting will soon begin to appear in the areas.
