Subscribe NowA monthly survey from the National Federation of Independent Businesses shows optimism among small businesses dropped in November. The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index shows fewer business owners are expecting better business conditions over the next six months.
The Index for November was 101.4, down from 104 in the previous month. However, the NFIB says the number remains well above average. The NFIB Uncertainty Index also fell to 90.
Barbara Quandt, NFIB state director in Indiana, says the latest index contains both good and some bad news.
“Frankly, I’m not surprised to see that the category of ‘owners expecting better business conditions over the next 6 months’ declined 19 points to a net 8%,” Quandt said. “However, there is some good news: the optimism index is still relatively high and above historic levels. It shows small business owners are hanging in there and still have hope for a brighter future once we have a (COVID-19) vaccine.”
However, Quandt says until then, another round of Paycheck Protection Program funds is needed.
