Surf Internet investing $25M for Muncie, Yorktown expansion

Elkhart-based Surf Internet announced plans Wednesday to invest $25 million to expand its fiber-optic network to Muncie and Yorktown.
The internet service provider said the move will bring service to a total of 21,000 homes and businesses between the two municipalities.
“This is a game-changer for Muncie and Yorktown,” CEO Gene Crusie said in a news release. “We’re proud to be the first to bring fiber internet to these Indiana communities, helping local residents and businesses access the speed, performance, and reliability they need to work, learn, and stay connected.”
Surf Internet will invest $21.1 million to bring service to more than 18,000 locations in Muncie and $3.9 million to connect about 3,000 addresses in Yorktown.
“Reliable internet access is no longer a luxury – it’s a necessity to keep our top-rated schools and growing community thriving,” Yorktown Town Manager Chase Bruton said. “This new fiber network helps to continue to position us as one of the top places to live and work in east central Indiana.”
Construction on the expansion is expected to begin later this year and continue in phases into 2026.
News of the expansion comes three months after Surf Internet announced it had raised $175 million in new equity funding and secured an additional $100 million in debt financing to expand its network across the Great Lakes region.
