Superintendent Margaret Hoernemann has been named Superintendent of the Year. She will be Indiana’s representative in the American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent of the Year program.
Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents Executive Director J.T. Coopman says Hoernemann used a "consistent, deliberate and multi-faceted approach" to address the district’s $39 million loss due to property tax caps.
She became Avon superintendent in 2012. Through an Efficiency Task Force, she led an effort to change school boundaries and share resources, resulting in $350,000 in transportation savings and $330,000 in custodial staffing savings.
Hoernemann holds degrees from Miami University of Ohio, Roosevelt University in Chicago and Purdue University. She also serves on the board of the Avon Chamber of Commerce.
