Indianapolis-based Sun King Brewing Co. says it will partner with Monarch Beverage Co. to ship throughout 18 counties in the central part of the state. Long-term, Sun King says it plans to work with additional Indiana distributors to bring its beer statewide by next spring.
Late last year, Sun King announced it would halt distribution outside of central Indiana because it would have hit a state-imposed small brewery production limit of 30,000 barrels per year. In an effort to boost the cap, Sun King and Munster-based Three Floyds Brewing Co. led a successful legislative charge to raise the limit to 90,000 barrels per year.
Its agreement with Monarch will include Blackford, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Delaware, Fountain, Henry, Howard, Jay, Madison, Miami, Montgomery, Randolph, Tipton, Tippecanoe, Warren, Wayne, and White counties.
Monarch Beverage also partners with other Indiana breweries, including Barley Island Brewing Co., Chapman’s Brewing Co., Daredevil Brewing Co., Flat 12 Bierwerks, Fountain Square Brewing Co., Oaken Barrel Brewing Co. and Triton Brewing Co.
In a post on the company blog, Sun King says "it is important to note that we will only add new distribution territories when we are comfortable that we can consistently supply them with the quality and consistency that our customers have grown to expect and enjoy."
Sun King recently opened a second taproom location in Fishers and has long stated their goal to be Indiana’s beer and only sold within the state.
