Subaru of Indiana to Observe 35th Anniversary
Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., which operates in Lafayette, will Thursday celebrate the 35th anniversary of its founding in the Hoosier State. The automaker will celebrate its evolution in Tippecanoe County, including growing from fewer than 1,000 employees to more than 6,500.
Executive Vice President Scott Brand will discuss the company’s milestones, including SIA’s start as a joint venture with Isuzu and its expansion of annual production capacity from less than 70,000 vehicles to 400,000.
In addition, Subaru says it expects to reach its five-millionth Subaru vehicle in August and its seven-millionth vehicle overall in December.
The nearly 4.8 million-square-foot facility sits on an 820-acre site in Lafayette. The plant produces the Subaru Legacy, Impreza, Outback and Ascent models.
In February 2020, the company detailed plans for a $158 million expansion that would create up to 350 jobs by the end of 2023.
