AgriNovus Indiana, the state’s food and agriculture innovation initiative, says stakeholders want to zero in on talent training, retention and attraction data not currently available.
The study will measure existing occupations, educational attainment levels and current and future work force needs.
AgriNovus Indiana Senior Director Brian Stemme tells Inside INdiana Business the industry increasingly "focused on adjacent spaces," such as software engineering and pharmaceuticals. Stemme hopes to bring the data to leaders in the education and businesses communities to help shape discussions of what will be needed to develop the work force over the next five-to-10 years. He says the programs that could be the focus include internships and additional collaboration between industry and higher education.
"Our stakeholders are very interested in this data. They’re the ones saying ‘we need to have this data’ and need to be thinking actively of ideas about how we can fill any gaps that we might have."
The study will get underway this month and it is expected to wrap up by year’s end. The effort is funded through a grant from the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc.
AgriNovus Indiana Senior Director Brian Stemme says gathering the data presents challenges.
