Among the topics are civil rights issues related to gender identity and sexual orientation, which stem from legislation that died in the previous session.
A study committee on education will discuss "ways to reduce school sexual misconduct violations and methods of improving the reporting requirements of sexual misconduct violations in schools." State Senator Jim Merritt (R-31) says he is please the issue will be taken up in the study committee.
"Students need to feel and be safe in the place they learn," said Merritt. "I am hopeful with this study committee, we can identify additional ways to prevent predators from slipping through the cracks and gaining access into our school systems. Parents and students have to be confident that school is a safe place."
A study committee called Indiana’s Roads For A Stronger, Safer Tomorrow Task Force will review road and bridge needs at the state and local level. The committee will also work to develop a long-term strategy to address those needs.
