Students to Compete in Autonomous Vehicle Challenge

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will Friday host 50 teams of high school students in its Autonomous Vehicle Challenge. The teams from Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee and Texas will compete after four months of designing, building and testing miniature autonomous vehicles.

The vehicles created by the students use a microcontroller and sensors to race on oval- and clover-figured race tracks. Rose-Hulman says the final challenge features a large track with twisting turns and straightaways. 

Rose-Hulman says the goal of the competition is to attract students to STEM-related fields. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. at the Fieldhouse Area, Sports and Recreation Center at Rose-Hulman.

Indiana

  • Attica Junior-Senior High School, Attica
  • Clay City Junior-Senior High School, Clay City
  • Home School Team, Terre Haute
  • Northview High School, Brazil
  • Riverton Parke Junior-Senior High School, Montezuma
  • South Vermillion High School, Clinton
  • Sullivan High School, Sullivan
  • Terre Haute North High School, Terre Haute
  • Terre Haute South High School, Terre Haute
  • Wabash River Career & Tech Education Center, Cayuga

Illinois

  • Lane Tech High School, Chicago

Tennessee

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet School, Nashville
  • Pope John Paul II High School, Hendersonville

Texas

  • James Martin High School, Arlington
  • Lubbock High School, Lubbock
  • Marshall High School, Marshall
  • Richardson High School, Richardson
