Student Apps Named ‘Best in State’

Subscribe NowTwo teams of students from Indiana have advanced to the national round of Verizon’s Innovative App Challenge. The teams from Bartholomew and Boone counties will compete for Best in Nation and Fan Favorite awards in the contest for middle and high school students.
A team of 8th grade students from Hauser Junior-Senior High School developed Speak Bot Pro, designed to help people with language or medical challenges to communicate effectively. A group of 12th grade students from Zionsville Community High School created Food For You, which is a platform to match donor contributions to families in need of food.
The two Best in State teams won $5,000 for their school and tablets for each student team member. The national awards include an additional $15,000 for the school and the opportunity to turn the plans into working apps during a trip to June’s TSA Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
Voting for the Fan Favorite award runs through January 31. The winners will be announced February 2.
