Schools in north central Indiana are among several to land more hands-on STEM experiences for students. A grant from the FCA Foundation, the charitable arm of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, is allowing for the expansion of the A World in Motion program, which incorporates STEM learning into the classroom.

The program is managed by the Pennsylvania-based nonprofit SAE Foundation. The organization says the funding from the FCA Foundation will allow it to expand the program to a total 75 classrooms in Indiana, Ohio and Illinois. The Hoosier schools that will receive the program include:

  • Elwood Haynes Elementary School – Kokomo
  • Maple Crest Elementary School – Kokomo
  • Tri-Central Middle School – Sharpsville
  • Tipton Middle School – Tipton

The SAE Foundation says the students will experience hands-on, project-based learning that aligns with national education standards and "teaches students not only critical STEM skills, but also how to work in teams and present and defend their ideas."

"The FCA Foundation has been an incredible partner of the SAE Foundation for many years," said Lori Gatmaitan, SAE Foundation Director. "This year, we’ve partnered to target their support throughout multiple communities, reaching a broad spectrum of students who otherwise may not have access to hands-on, engaging STEM programming."
