Ian Steff says Indiana’s ranking as first in the Midwest and fifth in the nation is third-party validation that national and global marketing efforts are paying off.
Steff says the fact that the rankings are based on CEO surveys is particularly telling, since it shows confidence in the state’s business climate by decision-makers. He says the state will use the rankings in hopes of illustrating to other executives that Indiana is a strong choice for location and expansion.
Indiana economic development leaders continue to see technology as a central focus of future growth. Steff points to the state’s most recent success: an announcement from Indian tech giant Infosys involving a tech and innovation hub in central Indiana that could result in 2,000 new jobs. He says the announcement shows the global reach of Indiana’s reputation. He says it is also due in part to multiple trips made to India by state leaders, which is another important piece of Indiana’s economic marketing strategy.
Chief Executive also cites Indiana’s commitment to infrastructure improvements to its strong ranking, including the Major Moves 2020 program and the recently-approved measure to provide an additional $1.2 billion in spending each year for road and bridge work.
