The American Red Cross has received a $375,000 gift from Fort Wayne-based Steel Dynamics Inc (Nasdaq: STLD). The donation will fund a blood mobile to serve northeast Indiana.
The new blood mobile will have climate control and advanced technology to expedite the blood donor experience. The blood mobile has a 10-year expected lifespan, and is projected to collect approximately 30,000 units of blood, helping thousands of patients.
“We are honored and privileged to have the opportunity to support the American Red Cross through our charitable foundation and our own team’s volunteerism,” Mark Millett, Steel Dynamics co-founder and chief executive officer, said in a news release. "We hold the American Red Cross and its thousands of volunteers in the highest regard, as they spread their critical mission across the world.”
The cost of the blood mobile is fully funded by the gift from the Steel Dynamics Foundation.
