The Indiana Department of Workforce Development will release the state's August employment report Friday morning. July's jobless rate held steady at 8.4 percent, despite a private sector gain of 5,900 jobs. Among neighboring states, Michigan's unemployment rate for August was 9 percent, up from 8.7 percent in July.

The unemployment rate in Illinois was 9.2 percent in August, the same as it was in July.

Kentucky's jobless rate was 8.4 percent, down from 8.5 percent in July.
