State to Receive Nearly $11M to Combat Opioid Abuse

Senator Joe Donnelly discussed the funding during a stop in northern Indiana this week.

Indiana has been selected for a $10.9 million federal grant to fight the state’s opioid abuse epidemic. The funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is part of emergency legislation signed into law in December. The $1 billion 21st Century Cures Act covers two years and received unanimous support in the House and Senate from the Indiana Delegation.

Senator Joe Donnelly, who detailed the funding awarded to the state Thursday in Granger, said "Indiana is receiving much-needed resources to help fund prevention efforts and treatment and recovery services." He added "we are making progress to ensure our state and communities have the tools needed to confront this public health crisis, but we still have a lot of work to do. It is going to continue to take all of us working together to stem the tide of the opioid epidemic."

The wide-ranging program supports initiatives and grants for treatment and recovery for families, workers, homeless individuals and children.
