The joint board overseeing a $100 million project to overhaul the corridor between downtown West Lafayette and Purdue University has accepted the recommendation of a primary developer. A public-private agreement for the State Street Redevelopment Project now heads to Governor Mike Pence for approval.
Plenary Roads State Street was the group preliminarily picked for the work last month.
The developer selection process is expected to be complete late next month, with financial closing expected to follow shortly after.
West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis says "we are thrilled to be kicking off this exciting project after investing nearly three years of hard work and dedication into the planning. The city and the university have truly collaborated in an unprecedented way and we eagerly anticipate seeing our community’s vision come to life."
Purdue University says "it’s great to have reached this decision point. Of course, planning and doing are different things, so now’s when the important part begins."
The project is designed to transform the street into "a more desirable destination for the local community and visitors."
