The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs is accepting applications for the latest grant funding round through its PreservINg Main Street program.
The program, in partnership with Indiana Landmarks and Indiana Humanities, aims to create a sustainable historic preservation model for communities throughout the state through the creation of a downtown revitalization plan.
Two finalists will be selected based on the applications, and one community will be eligible to receive implementation funds of up to $2 million, as well as various capacity-building opportunities through Indiana Landmarks and Indiana Humanities.
“Preservation is crucial in our rural communities as it encourages job creation, community revitalization and an improved quality of life,” OCRA Executive Director Fred Glynn said in a news release. “I encourage our Main Street communities to apply and invest in their historic downtown corridors.”
OCRA says non-entitlement communities with an established Nationally Accredited or Indiana Accredited Main Street organization are encouraged to apply. Communities must have a downtown district on the National Register of Historic Places to be eligible.
In addition to the funding, Indiana Landmarks has committed to providing services for the winning community, including workshops for building and business owners, educational opportunities on preservation, and providing staffing for a historic preservation commission through a local ordinance.
Applications are being accepted through 12 p.m. on July 17. You can find more information by clicking here.
