Sunday, April 9, 2017 09:56 PM EDT
By Andy Ober
State Honors Hoosier Homesteads The spring 2017 honorees included the Hausz family in Harrison County.

The Indiana State Department of Agriculture has presented 39 families with Hoosier Homestead Awards. The designations honor farms owned by the same family for at least 100 consecutive years. More than 5,000 families have received Hoosier Homestead Awards since 1976.

To be eligible for the award, farms must produce more than $1,000 in agricultural products per year. 24 Centennial Awards, marking 100 years of ownership, 19 Sesquicentennial Awards, marking 150 years of ownership and one Bicentennial Award, marking 200 years of ownership. Some families earned more than one award.

Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch says the families play a big part in "continuing Indiana’s legacy as an agricultural leader," with the industry contributing $31 billion to Indiana’s economy.
