The Indiana Republican State Committee approved Holcomb’s selection of Crouch as his running mate Monday morning. The pair will fill the vacancy created by Governor Mike Pence’s decision to run with GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Wayne Harmon and Jeffrey Martin were also seeking the lieutenant governor selection.
Trump’s selection of Pence touched off a domino effect of changes to the Hoosier political landscape as two sitting members of Congress, Todd Rokita (R-4) and Susan Brooks (R-5), and current Lieutenant Governor Holcomb all threw their hats into the ring for governor. The party’s selection committee last week went with Holcomb, who was endorsed by Pence. Both Rokita and Brooks have since re-filed with the state to run again for their seats.
In a statement, Indiana GOP Chairman Jeff Cardwell says:
I am proud to announce that State Auditor Suzanne Crouch will be joining Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb on our statewide ticket this November. Suzanne brings experience from local and state government at the legislative and executive levels, has a strong record and has served Indiana for many years. She is passionate about serving Hoosiers and will be an excellent partner in the Statehouse with Eric Holcomb.
Crouch was initially sworn in as state auditor in 2013 following the resignation of Dwayne Sawyer. Crouch served the remainder of the term, which ended in 2014, and won re-election that November. She previously served as state representative in District 78 from 2005 until accepting the state auditor position two years ago.
