State Cutting Disaster Relief Fund Checks

Subscribe NowDozens of Hoosiers in 27 counties who were affected by severe storms and flooding in June and July are beginning to receive checks from the Indiana State Disaster Relief Fund. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security says, in total, more than $300,000 will be paid out for damages.
The state was not approved for federal disaster relief during that period of time.
Governor Mike Pence says "there are many out there hurting, and our charge is to help our citizens. The damage seen across the state as a result of this summer’s severe weather is far greater than some realize, and our state is well positioned to help ease the burden on those people still trying to recover."
Indiana is one of the only states with a funding mechanism like this. Recipients of this round of funding needed to qualify for U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loans. Those counties are:

- Wabash
- Wells
- Whitley
The disaster relief fund in Indiana was established in 2003. It is paid for by fees from retail fireworks sales.
