The city of Rushville and the town of Corydon each beat out two other finalists, making them eligible to receive state-administered federal funding.
Rushville beat out the cities of Warsaw and Shelbyville in the "Division I" selection process, while in "Division II," Corydon was selected over the city of Culver and the town of Union City.
Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb, whose office oversees Stellar Communities, said "I was filled with such pride while visiting the six finalist communities this summer, seeing firsthand the passion and dedication each team is putting towards bettering their community through economic development opportunities. I look forward to celebrating the work of the state and local teams at the State Fair next week. With or without the stellar designation, all six communities are on their way to achieving transformative outcomes that will better their local and regional areas."
Rushville’s proposals involve revitalization and rehabilitation efforts in the city’s downtown and historic district. More specifically, the work centers on commercial, housing and office space development, as well as creating a trailhead and bike hub and building the Riverside Park Gateway Plaza.
Corydon will focus broadly renovating, improving, enhancing and rehabilitating existing features. The proposals involve three historic buildings, housing and walkway rehabilitation downtown, as well as an Indian Creek Trail Connection at Keller Park.
The proposals could be funded by public and private sources, though it’s not a guarantee they will receive funding. State and community leaders will meet in the coming weeks to examine feasibility, funding, timelines and partnerships.
