St. Vincent Health says it will close St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Lafayette within the next 60 days. The move follows Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health's decision to close its emergency care center on the campus.
October 1, 2014
Indianapolis, Ind. — Today, St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital officials announced plans to close its Lafayette location, 1501 Hartford Street. The long-term acute care hospital will start the closure process of not accepting new patients on October 1, 2014.
In April, Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health made the decision to consolidate acute care services from the Central campus to its new East campus. As a remaining tenant on the Central campus, this consolidation, coupled with the expiration of the lease agreement early next year, resulted in St.Vincent Seton Specialty making the difficult decision to close its long-term acute care services in Lafayette.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to have served the Lafayette community, and provide exemplary care to patients and families the past seven years,” said Jonathan Nalli, CEO of St.Vincent. “In addition, our partnership with area physicians and Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health remains of the utmost importance to our health ministry, and we will continue to identify ways to support Lafayette and surrounding community residents.”
Although St.Vincent Seton Specialty will be closing in Lafayette, the health provider will continue to see patients from across the state at its Indianapolis location. The long-term acute care hospital will safely care for patients at the Lafayette location until they are discharged or transferred to Seton Specialty Indianapolis or another long-term acute care provider of their choice.
“It is unfortunate that we will be closing our Lafayette facility, but we remain committed to serving long-term acute care patients and families at our Indianapolis location,” said Peter Alexander, administrator of St.Vincent Seton Specialty. “Our priority is to work with local physicians and Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health to ensure patients have access to our high level of expertise and compassionate care.”
In keeping with the Mission of serving all persons with dignity, St.Vincent Seton Specialty leadership is working diligently to ensure that associates in Lafayette have the opportunity to relocate to other positions across the St.Vincent system or with other partner providers in the area. For eligible associates, St.Vincent Seton Specialty will be providing severance packages and outplacement support services to help through the transition.
The long-term acute care hospital expects to vacate the Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health Central campus within 60 days.
